The Department of Physics is organising the tenth edition of the “Eminent Guest Lecture Series: An Odyssey of Physics” on September 20, 2023. The eminent lecture will be delivered by Prof. R P Singh, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad who will expound on the topic “Beyond Qubit” and the advantages of developing the quantum system in laboratories for efficient usage.

Join the session for an exciting and insightful lecture on Quantum Mechanics!

Abstract

A qubit is a two-state quantum-mechanical system, one of the simplest exhibiting the peculiarity of quantum mechanics, for example, the polarization state of a photon. However, there are quantum systems which can exist in infinite states, such as the orbital angular momentum (OAM) state of a photon. One can go further and instead of choosing quantum mechanical systems with discrete variables like polarization and OAM, could consider using quantum systems with continuous variables such as position and momentum or field quadratures. We will discuss creating these quantum systems in the lab and harnessing them to our advantage.
